Josh and Britt are two of a kind AND TWO OF MY FAVOURITE HUMANS. (THEY CHANGED MY LIFE WITH A SURPRISE ELOPEMENT IN 2015). Josh is regarded as one of the top wedding celebrants in Australia, infamous for shaking up the world of white through breaking convention. His wife Britt combines creativity and collaboration to craft the perfect celebration; keeping it real, romantic and intimate. Together the duo have formed The Elopement Collective, offering meaningful marriage experiences to those ready to honour their relationship in ways as unique as the souls it represents.
Meet Josh and Britt from The Elopement Collective ...
Why does the Elopement Collective exist?
The Elopement Collective exists because it didn’t when we were engaged. We just wanted to celebrate and begin our marriage and eloping seemed almost as hard as planning a wedding. So a few years on we started the business we wished existed.
How does your passion drive you to do things differently within your industry?
Doing things differently is the only thing we know. Creating new marriages the old way seems purposeless to us, so we’re driven to find new and exciting ways for people to begin their marriages.
In what ways does The Elopement Collective positively impact relationships between others?
We really value marriage and what it means for a couple, their community and the society we live in and we believe that meaningful, significant and purposeful marriage celebrations can lead to meaningful, significant and purposeful marriages that can positively affect our world.
How does marriage change a relationship?
It’s about direction. In a marriage you’re not focused on what’s behind you, you’re eagle-eyed on the unknown that’s ahead of you. It’s a forward-thinking, deliberate relationship, that involves two people holding hands and tackling the world ahead together.
Has society’s view of marriage changed and if so, how?
Marriage in the past has been a vessel for childbirth, intercourse, and financial transactions. Marriage today has almost nothing common with the marriages of old. It’s about two people actively engaged in what’s ahead of them.
Tell us about the quirkiest wedding you've officiated so far?
So many couples sit in front of us and tell us they’re boring and dull, but honestly, every single couple we marry has a spectacular story and a meaningful place in our world, so at risk of sounding cliche, every wedding for us is quirky!
What are the essential ingredients for humans to create long and happy relationships with each other?
Unconditional forgiveness and love. It’s that simple.
If you could share 1 piece of advice with those planning to get hitched, what would it be?
Throw out the rule book so you’re not celebrating wedding culture, instead, celebrate you.
You collaborate with creatives all over the world. How do you find other folks that share your unique vision for celebrating love in unique and meaningful ways?
Coffee. Honestly, we share life with our “collective”, they’re not just business partners, they’re our friends, so like any good friendship they all begin with a smile, a coffee, a generous gesture or a highfive.
What's the big dream for The Elopement Collective?
We want to take our message to every corner of the world!
